The Chase County Youth Technology Center is excited to announce the expansion of their services to families
by adding the Chase County Youth Mentoring Program. The goals of the mentoring program are to help students be successful
in school, help children resist taking drugs, improve self-esteem and teach students to reach out and help others.
Statistics show that students involved in mentoring programs are: 46% less likely to begin using illegal
drugs, 27% less likely to begin drinking alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, and 33% less likely to engage in a fight.
Our program will be offering several components that we believe your child will find exciting. Unfortunately,
we can't offer the One-On-One Mentorships to everyone because of limited volunteers, but the other activities
will be open for all who want to participate.
The components are:
1) One-On-One Mentorship - matching students with over 55 year old adults to meet
once a week during the school year.
2) Small focus groups- The Tech Center will be offering several seminars or workshops.
Some examples are golf, sewing, scrapbooking, tennis, art, boys and girls clubs and tutoring.
3) Community Service- Students will perform services and projects that help our
community.
4) Fun Family Activities- One weekend each month the tech center will host
activities for the entire family.
5) Social skills building activities- Weekly 45 minute activities held at the tech
center that help students develop social skills and self-esteem.
